wanted to be a doctor at one point. She Started her career as theatre actor in Delhi with the Asmita theatre group & was trained under eminent theatre director Arvind Gaur. She participated in his theatre workshop at India Habitat Centre and acted in many plays.

It was the Bollywood Film-maker Anurag Basu who spotted Kangana and signed her up for his film. There started film career of this beauty. Actress Kangana Ranaut’s first film was Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster where she was paired opposite Emraan Hashmi and Shiney Ahuja. The film was critically and commercially successful and her performance was especially applauded. She was also credited with many awards like Filmfare Best Female Debut Award, IIFA Star debut etc; for this film. Woh Lamhe was her second film and she acted opposite Shiney Ahuja, which was also a big hit and brought her fame. Her next film was Anurag Basu's hit film Life In A... Metro in which she performed along with Shilpa Shetty, Shiney Ahuja, Kay Kay Menon, Konkona Sen Sharma and Irfan Khan.She won Stardust Breakthrough Performance Award for this film.Then came the film Shakalaka Boom Boom where Kangana played the role of an aspiring singer. Bobby Deol, Upen Patel and Celina Jaitley were her co-stars. Then came her Tamil debut with the film, Dhaam Dhoom, directed by the late director, Jeeva She has at present, a current offer to star in a US-based film entitled "Between the Night and the Moon"(2009). She is to play a character named Zoon and is a romantic
film lightly based on Romeo and Juliet. Set in Kashmir and Miami, Florida. Directed by Italian Director Gilda Pianelli.
